Installing Boast For WordPress
Boast makes it easy to collect and display testimonials on your WordPress website. Follow the steps below to get started collecting testimonials and showcasing your praise.
1. Create a page for collecting testimonials
The first step to collecting testimonials on your WordPress website is creating the page that you will use to collect your testimonials. Log into WordPress and go to the admin screen. Then hover over Pages from the left-hand menu and select “Add New.”
From here you can give your page a name, such as “Submit Your Testimonial” or “Share Your Praise.” You might want to customize the URL to be something easy for people to remember and access. For example, we use boast.io/share to collect testimonials from our clients. Bost team members include the URL in email signatures and on business cards to encourage our customers to submit a testimonial.
You will probably want to add some text to the page. If you are running a promotion to collect your testimonials, this is where you would put that information. You can also include instructions for your customers on how they can submit a testimonial. We have written up some instructions below that you can use on your website, or write your own custom instructions. If you use the instructions below, be sure to change YOUR CAMPAIGN CODE to be the code of the campaign for which you are collecting testimonials. You can find this code in the My Campaigns section of Boast.
Share Your Praise!
Submitting a testimonial only takes a couple minutes when you follow the steps below.
- Use the form to tell us who you are.
- Add a title and a short description or text testimonial.
- Allow the form to access your webcam by selecting the Allow option.
- Hit record and take a minute or two to share your testimonial.
- Once you are happy with your video, submit your praise!
You can also submit a testimonial with your smartphone or mobile device.
- Search the Apple App Store or the Android Play Store for Boast.io and download the Boast.io app.
- Open up the app, and enter YOUR CAMPAIGN CODE into the Campaign Code box.
- Identify yourself, give your testimonial a title and add a short description.
- Take a minute or two to shoot your video testimonial.
- Submit your praise, and you are good to go!
2. Add the Boast testimonial collection widget to your new page
Once your page for collecting testimonials has been created, you can add the testimonial collection widget to start collecting praise. Go to your Boast Admin Dashboard and select Collect Testimonials from the left-hand menu.
Here, you can grab the code for embedding the testimonial collection form on your website. Copy the code that is in the text box under the “Add Form to Your Website” heading. Then head over to your WordPress website and edit the page you created.
In order for the code to work properly, you need to paste your Boast code into the “Text” tab of the WordPress editor, not the “Visual” tab. If you paste the code in the visual editor, WordPress will strip out the code and it won’t show up on your site. Once you are in the text tab of the editor, paste your code and save the page.
3. Create a page on your WordPress website for showcasing testimonials
Once you collect testimonials from your loyal following, you will need a place to showcase all of your praise. Once again, you will need to create a new page by going to the admin section of your WordPress website, hovering over Pages from the left-hand menu, and selecting “Add New.”
You can name this page something like “Customer Testimonials” or “What Our Clients Are Saying.” You can also add some text about your company. You may also want to add a link to your testimonial collection page to encourage customers to share their praise.
4. Add the Boast display widget to your new display page
Finally, you will need to copy and paste the testimonial display widget on your website. Go back to your Boast Admin Dashboard, and this time, select Display Testimonials from the left-hand menu. You will see a couple of options that you can customize before you add copy the code and add it to your site.
Select Your Campaign(s)
If you have more than one campaign in Boast, You can select the individual campaign or campaigns that you want to display on your website. Start typing a campaign name to see the options available.
Select Your Tag(s)
If you have added tags to your testimonials, you can also opt to only display certain testimonials based on how they are tagged. Once you have added tags under the My Testimonials section, the tag options available will automatically show up when you start to type.
Select a Sort Order
By default, your testimonials will be sorted by date with the newest approved submissions at the top. You can also change your sort order to be based on rating or you can have them be randomly ordered each time the display widget is loaded.
Limit Number of Testimonials Displayed
Finally, you can specify a limit on the number of testimonials that are displayed. Your testimonial display widget will never show more testimonials than you specify here.
Once you are happy with your customization options, copy your updated code. Then go back to the WordPress page you created in step 3 and paste your code, once again in the “Text” tab of the editor. Just like before, the code will not work unless it is pasted in the text tab. Then save your WordPress page, sit back and soak up the praise for your business!
Note: If you don’t have any active or approved testimonials in the campaign selected, your display code will not output anything on the page.
