Why Ask for Reviews?
Why should you ask for reviews in the first place? Reviews are a great way to show potential customers that your products and services are as good as you say they are. Though most customers don’t believe brand messaging by itself, they’re more likely to believe other customers. Social proof plays an important part in marketing in general, and makes your messages more impactful and memorable.
Asking for Reviews on Instagram

Instagram is heavily focused on images and videos, and has been since its inception. With over 2 billion regular users, it’s also one of the most popular platforms, especially among users aged 18 to 34. Instagram is a great place to show off your products or services with appealing visuals, how-to’s, before-and-afters, and much more. It’s also a great place to ask for reviews.
To ask for reviews on Instagram, you can use a combination of video, images, and text. Your audience will need somewhere to go to submit their reviews or testimonials, so it’s a good idea to have a link to a landing page ready. You can put this in your “bio” section on your Instagram page, or use a link collection tool to host multiple links. You might link to a third-party site where you want to collect more reviews, like Google, or a landing page on your own site, so you can repost reviews in your own marketing materials.
Let’s take a look at a template you might use to ask for reviews on Instagram.
Template 1: Video and Text
Record a video of yourself or a coworker asking for a review. Limit the video to less than 15 seconds, use good-quality lighting, and don’t worry too much if it isn’t perfect; authenticity is often better than polished perfection. Modify the following template and post text to suit your business as you make and post your video.
Video script: “Hi everybody! I’m [Name] owner of [Business name]. We’re working on growing our business and you can help! If you’ve enjoyed our products in the past, give us a review. Reviews help other customers find our business and our products. Use the link in our bio to submit a review! It takes less than a minute and it would help us out a lot. Thanks!”
Post text: We want to hear from you! If you’ve purchased our products in the past, tell us what you think! Reviews help other customers find our business, so we can keep expanding and providing even more great products. Use the link in our bio to submit your review. We appreciate your help so much!

Asking for Reviews on Facebook

Facebook is perhaps the longest-standing social media platform, and still has a large user base. Facebook began in the early 2000’s with only college students, and became the most significant platform in the social media sphere. With 3 billion regular users worldwide, it’s a great way to get your message out and engage with customers about your business.
Facebook also allows users to post multimedia content, and it’s a good idea to have either photos or video and text in your post. Just like your Instagram post, keep your video to less than 15 seconds, and try to make it feel authentic. You could easily adapt the previous template for this platform as well the following one.
Let’s take a look at a slightly different template, using still images and text instead of video.
Template 2: Images and Text
To ask for a review on Facebook, you can use some still images with slight edits, and some thoughtful text. You might use one image, or a small collection of images. Modify this template as you see fit.
Image 1: A photo of the business from outside, on a bright, sunny day. White text overlaid: “We want to hear from you! Yes you!”
Image 2: A photo of the inside of the business with customers inside. “Have you visited us recently? Give us a review!”
Image 3: A photo of a collection of our products in an appealing display. “Your opinion helps other customers find us! We appreciate your help!”

Asking for Reviews on TikTok

The social media company TikTok has had a rocky road recently in the US, with Donald Trump calling for a ban on the app, then signing several executive orders delaying enforcement of the ban. Despite this, TikTok continues to grow, especially among younger users in the US. With 1.59 billion regular users and growing, about half of these users are between the ages of 10 and 29. If your business is oriented towards a younger audience, TikTok can be a particularly powerful platform.
To ask for reviews on TikTok, it’s important to keep your message short, and use fast-moving, dynamic graphics. Shorter videos tend to work better on TikTok, so it’s helpful if you can get your message out as quickly as possible, while still being clear. Don’t forget to add relevant hashtags at the end of your post text!
Template 3: Short, Dynamic Video with Text
For this template, we’ll stitch three very short clips (less than three seconds each) together, with text overlaid across each. This will get the message across quickly and clearly.
Video 1: A model using our product, smiling. Overlaid white text with dropshadow: “Love our products?”
Video 2: A model typing on their phone. Overlaid text: “Give us a review!”
Video 3: A brightly-lit, panning shot of products on our shelves. Overlaid text: “We appreciate your support!”

Asking for Reviews on YouTube

YouTube began in 2005, and it now has 2.49 billion regular users. Though YouTube doesn’t focus on sharing, friending, and communicating with other users as much as other social media platforms, it’s sheer dominance in the video world demands a mention on this list. With millions of videos uploaded every day and billions of videos currently on the site, it’s the largest video hosting and sharing platform on Earth. Though YouTube also has YouTube Shorts to compete with platforms like Instagram and TikTok, YouTube videos are generally longer and more informational or entertaining.
To ask for a review on YouTube, you might pair this message with an additional message about your business that’s likely to intrigue or interest your customers. You might announce a new product, talk about your business growth, explain your business’s mission or goals, or something else. Or, you might simply explain why you’re seeking reviews and testimonials, and how reviews and testimonials help your business expand.
For this template, we’re going to condense the video script somewhat. You might modify this template to add additional details about your business, goals, or why you need reviews.
Template 4: Long-form video
For a long-form video, it’s helpful to stitch several mid-length videos together to keep your longer video dynamic and interesting. You might show clips of your business and products and add narration, or add clips of yourself and your employees and customers, or other relevant videos.
Video 1: Video of business owner in front of the store, speaking: “Hi! I’m [name], owner of [business name]. Let’s take a look inside!” Owner enters the store, camera follows them inside.
Video 2: Camera follows the owner as they show different parts of the shop. They continue narrating: “We’ve been a part of [location] for [time], and our great products, service, and our great customers have helped us continue to grow! We want to keep expanding and offering more products, and we’d love to get your help to do it. If you’ve enjoyed our products in the past, writing a review will help us reach new customers!”
Video 3: Owner behind check-out counter, narrating. “Use the link provided with this post to write a review. You can also use your smartphone to record a video review. Feel to make your review as long or as short as you like! Customers believe other customers more than businesses, so your review helps other customers decide to give us a try. We at [business name] appreciate your help so much! Thanks for listening, and we hope to see you in our store soon!”
